Saundra O’Shea the brand was created during 2022. I had run an accessories business for years using glitter and sequins but I had become super aware of how harmful my products were to the environment and I knew it had to stop.

Starting over gave me an opportunity to focus on my childhood dream - to design and make clothes. I had always been a creative child and loved losing myself in art but somewhere along the line I was told I wouldn't be good enough to make it in the competitive world of fashion. It took several decades for me to challenge that belief.

The core of each of my designs is comfort and sustainability. Life has shown me that you can change how you feel simply by changing what you wear and if you feel comfortable you'll feel more confident.

I use traditional dressmaking methods such as twice turned hems, flat seams and hand-gathered pleats which ensures each garment is comfortable and lasts for years to come.

Waste within the fashion industry is at an all time high with most fast fashion brands showing no signs of curbing production.

The textile industry produces more greenhouse gas emissions than the shipping and aviation industries combined. To keep prices low, throwaway fashion is made by garment workers often from the world’s poorest communities, and paid below the living wage. Each week 11 million garments end up in landfill in the UK.  (Source: Oxfam).

I don't want to be a part of this problem - I want to be a part of a new solution. As a small, sustainable business I have the power to make change. I firmly believe that small acts, carried out by many, have the power to change the world.

Do your little bit of good where you are; it's those little bits of good put together that overwhelm the world. (Desmond Tutu).

My Minimum Waste, Maximum Joy collection is an on-going commitment to make one-off pieces using 'waste' textiles.

These textiles may be small fabric remnants not big enough to make a single garment or salvaged textiles earmarked for landfill. I also LOVE vintage fabrics such as tablecloths and bed linen. These unloved materials are magicked into joyful garments that are wearable pieces of art. Think patching, appliqué, ribbons, scraps and vintage.

Wouldn't you rather wear what you believe in? I know I would.
